Syncing with spring
Since humans are an extension of nature, (Check out my latest Instagram post on how we lost this connection) it is expected that we too live in a cycle of four seasons - Winter, Spring, Summer, and Autumn- the same way the Earth does. This means that we go through different cycles of living and expression to suit whichever time we are in.
As we approach the spring equinox, we can feel our energy rising, the same way the sun’s heat is getting stronger and more present. It is at this time we begin to take notice of all the things around us because we are finally leaving the cocoon of winter.
I don’t know about you but in winter my energy levels get really low which means I am not on top of my projects, nor organizing my life in the same productive and intricate way that I do the rest of the year. And so with this new found energy, I always feel inspired and activated to get my shit together. And I bet that is exactly how you’re feeling right now.
Which is why I am writing this. Not only to validate your lived experience, but also to explain what is happening and help set you up for success this year!
Before I dive into what ACTIONS you can take this season, let’s dive into the story of the spring equinox or otherwise known as Ostara:
Ostara falls between March 20- 23 and it is the second spring festival on the wheel of the year. It is a celebration of life, growth, rebirth, and abundance. It is also known as the time when the hours of light and dark are at equal length and perfect equilibrium. The spring equinox represents a time of balance, not just between light and dark, but also feminine and masculine, the seen and the unseen.
In this celebration, the goddess is honoured in her maiden aspect as she comes into her full power (The dark soils coming into full fertility) and the God moves from infancy to greater maturity (The sun getting closer to the Earth) In this time of year the cycle of life, death and rebirth is completed, and now there are signs of spring and the Earth’s fertility everywhere.
You may have heard of this celebration through your Christian faith. The Christian festival, Easter, finds benefits, roots and spirituality from the sabbath of Ostara. Easter is also about rebirth, resurrection, and new life and the eggs play a similar role in both festivals.
The eggs represent new life and new beginnings which also represents fertility. This is why they are given as gifts. Another association with this festival is the purification and the removal of negative energies. Ever heard of spring cleaning? After the spring equinox the wheel continues to turn so it's a really good time to remove any unwanted or negative energies by clearing space both inside ourselves, and our external environments to invite new blessings into our lives.
Now that we know a little more about Easter/Ostara/Spring Equinox, what can we do to celebrate and harness this energy of renewal to shift our lives into the best possible timeline?
1- Reflection journal prompts ( what can I say, I am a huge fan of writing and self-awareness)
What seeds do I need to plant?
What do I need to cultivate?
What areas of my life need spring cleaning?
What parts of my life are out of balance?
How can I bring balance into my life?
When I find balance, what will emerge?
2- Deep clean your home space and any area you spend LOTS of time in!
Your home is a physical representation of your mind. If you want to have clarity over what it is you want to plant and harvest this year, you gotta make sure you organize your space and define your values, beliefs and aspirations.
3- Build a vision board.
Plan your life, what do you want to harvest later on? Make it aesthetic, and meditate with your board daily to nurture your inner fire.
4- Plant literal seeds with intention.
Use this as a way to remain connected and devoted to whatever it is you’re inviting into your life. E.i when you care for the seed/plant, you remember to water your own dreams.
5- Decorate eggs and gift them to your loved ones.
Connect with the energy of fertility through your crafting time. And share this beautiful energy with others so they too can feel capable of planning and achieving their dreams.
6- Go on a nature walk and take notice of all signs of spring (early blooms, wildlife, sun beaming, kids running around.. etc)
Similar to the eggs, but this time it’s a reminder that nature is an external representation of what happens inside of you. Taking the time to notice new growth, aliveness and the sweetness of spring will help you connect to those parts of yourself inside.
